The truth of the matter is that, unlike in the old days, it is becoming harder and harder for authors to stay connected with their readers. Due to the omnipresence of the technology that now decides what gets distributed (and what doesn’t), email is one of the ONLY channels that still isn’t governed by someone else’s maniacal machine.
Honestly speaking, I hate junk in my inbox as much as anyone else and I long neglected the important task of starting a newsletter. Eventually though, I caved as I felt I had a responsibility to the readers who were looking to learn more about a different side of Japan. These days, I send out a short, spam-free email with what I’ve written for the week along with some seasonal travel tips.
